Grow Your Confidence

Confidence is built through life and work experiences. This is a concept that people from many industries can agree with because it has been proven that the more you do something, the better you get at it over time. A lot of this self-confidence comes from being in situations where you have to make tough decisions on a regular basis. These moments present opportunities for one to shine and build confidence based on their ability to keep moving forward and take control of situations they’re not used to being in.

How often have you put yourself in a difficult position where you had to make decisions and move forward? It’s imperative that you put yourself in uncomfortable situations to build your confidence in both your personal and professional life.

As a business owner, it’s also important for you to help your employees grow their own confidence. Give them the authority to make decisions, without you being the bottleneck.

Learn from Your Mistakes

Speaking of making tough decisions, there are going to be times when a decision you made didn’t pan out the way you had hoped. In that moment, all your insecurities or lack-of-confidence might come bubbling to the surface, but don’t let it be debilitating. After all, building a business or succeeding in life is a case of learning-through-doing.

What others might see as a “failure” or a “mistake” is actually a learning experience. Sit down and evaluate what happened, why it happened and what you can do differently next time. The more you can learn from your mistakes, the more confident you’ll become in yourself and your abilities.

Lessons can also be taught by others! You don’t know what you don’t know, so the best solution is to ask for help and guidance from others. A lot of people find they learn hard lessons from their mistakes when they get honest feedback from peers or someone in an external position such as a consultant, adviser or success coach. You can also pick up a few business books, listen to podcasts, and dive deep into the lessons other people have learned to fast-track your success and confidence in business.

Celebrate Your Wins

Off the heel of learning from your mistakes is celebrating your wins! Nothing in life or business is easy, so it’s important to get excited about closing a new deal or boasting about your colleagues’ hard work.

An easy way to incorporate “wins” into your life or business is to start each day or each meeting with something good that happened. It sets the tone for the rest of the day and it helps make the heavier stuff feel less burdensome. It also helps to get clear on your goals, where you’re headed, and what you’re hoping to achieve so you can more appropriately assess a “win” over a “loss”. Wear Many Hats

To be a great business person, you need to wear many hats. You need to have a basic understanding of sales, marketing, finance, insurance, and the law. You have to be willing to educate yourself and don’t solely rely on your team or your consultants. At the end of the day, no one cares about your business as much as you do, so spend the time to learn everything you can.

Not only will you set yourself up for success, but you’ll also gain a ton of confidence in yourself and your ability to run a successful business if you roll up your sleeves and learn what needs to be done.

Maintain Balance in Your Career and Personal Life

The quintessential definition of work/life balance is hard to achieve. It can be challenging to never work weekends or to take long uninterrupted vacations, for example. Instead of chasing an unrealistic goal, try to allow your career and your personal life to coexist. Sure, you’ll go through seasons of your life where you’ll need to put more attention into one over the other, but the “balance” comes in when you can be mindful about spreading your time and energy more evenly.

Also, don’t be afraid to take time for yourself. When you step away, you come back with a fresh perspective. When you have enough confidence in yourself and enough belief in yourself or your team, you can trust that your business will not come crashing down.
